THE Story BEHIND THE BRAND

HISTORY

Karl Toosbury- the founder of ECCO- had a vision. He wanted to own a shoe factory and run his own business. Trained from an early age as a shoemaker, he gradually rose through the ranks. By his early thirties he was managing a shoe factory in Copenhagen. The business however, was not his.

The family decided to give up the security of a regular job, sold their home and moved to Bredebro in the west of Denmark. Karl then took over a empty factory, and sent out an ad asking “Who wants us?”

By the end of the year 74 people were employed and Karl’s vision unfolded.

TECHNOLOGY

Our FLUIDFORM™ Technology is the result of over 3 decades of development, and lies at the very core of our brand. This technology allows us to inject resilient and shock-absorbent material directly into a mould. We then bond the sole to the upper instantly and seamlessly.

The result? A reliable and durable union between the upper and the sole unit, which offers a finely-tuned balance of cushioning and rebound.

This is just one of our many innovative technologies we use to create premium footwear.

ENVIROMENTAL

ECCO is the only major shoe company to own and operate our own production and retail facilities. We recognise that with great influence comes great responsibility. We are proud to accept that responsibility and do our best to make our impact on this planet as light as possible.
