ECCO Dri Tan

As part of a commitment to continually challenge the status quo, ECCO Leather has taken a big step towards reducing the water it uses in its tanneries.

LOOKS GOOD, does good

ECCO Leather tans 1.25 million hides per year, supplying leather goods and shoes to over 2,200 ECCO shops. Not only this, our external customers, which includes some of the world’s most iconic luxury brands, also source materials from ECCO Leather.

By introducing DriTan™ into the ECCO tannery, we will save more than 25 million litres of water annually, which is enough to hydrate 9,000 people.

NOT JUST ANY leather

Five years in the making, DriTan™ drastically reduces the amount of water required to tan leathers, allowing tanneries to operate in a more sustainable fashion.

The process saves an impressive 20 litres of water per hide, and produces leather which is indistinguishable from traditionally tanned leather in terms of quality, characteristics, and stability.

ECCO iconic

“Tanning is a very old and traditional industry, so people tend to forget to ask: can it be done

To showcase this radical new technology, ECCO has reimagined the iconic SOFT 8 sneaker, using leathers produced using DriTan™. ECCO are currently working on the scalability of the process in the hope that one day they can share and inspire others in the leather industry.

ECCO Leather has developed a revolutionary new water-saving technology, DriTan™. DriTan™ aims to transform the global leather tanning industry creating leathers which are both luxury and sustainable.
